Getting Back in the Saddle

After eight long weeks filled with laughter and sadness it’s now time to get back in the proverbial saddle. I’ve gathered together many articles, spoken with authors, photographers and know what I want for the cover. As I busily work on this or that aspect of the next issue I find myself with the phone in my hand. I press the autodial for dad. He’s not there.

It’s interesting the new dynamic a project takes on when it loses one of the major players. I’d become accustomed to dad’s daily critiques, even when I found them irritating in their correctness or he interrupted my dinner to go over some small detail. He was a taskmaster, but he was also my father. I miss him. In my mission to move forward I strive for the same excellence and try to imagine what he would have to say about a certain photo, or length of an article.

We have a new section featured this month: Humor. Dad had the chance to edit this article and he found it “Quite delightful, I wouldn’t change a thing.” He also edited several others, so his name will continue as editor in this, his final edition.

From young to old it’s shaping up to be quite lovely. Thanks Dad for the courage to continue and the love with which you took on the task.
